Alma Jane Wreck in Puerto Galera - Philippines

Wreck exploration dives are exciting and extremely fun, because it makes you feel like you are exploring a ship that no one has seen before and one that might hide a big treasure from you. The stark reality is however that most of the modern day wrecks are being sunk into the ocean to create interesting dive spots, or to create artificial reefs. This wreck however makes Puerto Galera wreck diving interesting again.

The Alma Jane Wreck dive site is located at the Sabang beach and is right beside the Sabang Reef. This dive site is only 5 minutes away from the shore by boat and you can even enter this dive location from the shore. The Alma Jane Wreck was a Filipino cargo vessel that was sunk in 2003. The wreck itself is deteriorating, but the coral formations and the multitude of fish and critters keep this wreck literally alive. The Alma Jane Wreck stands up tall on the bottom of the ocean and reminds you of wrecks such as the Titanic or other cruisers that sank.

The Alma Jane Wreck dive site has much to offer and you can basically explore everything on, beside or in the cargo vessel. You can see sweetlips, rabbitfish and batfish along the line toward the rudder, and you will see scorpionfish at the outside walls of the vessel trying to blend into the environment. Other residents of the Alma Wreck are lionfish, snappers, frogfish and trumpet fish. You may find plenty of critter hiding amongst the debris like shrimps, nudibranchs and ghost pipefish.

The Alma Jane Wreck dive site should only be attempted by advanced divers since this is a wreck dive. The maximum depth is 30 meters which makes this dive a deep dive as well, and the minimum depth is around 5 meters. The average depth is around 20 meters throughout the dive. The Alma Jane Wreck is also a great Nitrox dive spot. There are barely any currents in this area which make a relaxed dive.

The overall cost per dive including weights, tanks, guide and boat is around $25 to $40 depending on dive club or dive shop. The Alma Jane Wreck dive site is not the brightest in the world, therefore we advise you to bring your underwater flashlight or lamp if you own one and if not you can rent one for a rental fee of $10 and below. Nitrox rentals also cost around $10 and below and you should be having a great time exploring this wreck. Tech divers are also welcome to explore the Alma Jane Wreck. If you fancy wreck diving, then the Alma Jane Wreck simply shouts for your visit.
