Kilima Steps Dive Site in Puerto Galera - Philippines

The Kilima Steps dive site is located at the farthest north eastern spot in Puerto Galera. It will take you approximately 20 minutes to get to this dive site with a boat. This dive site is quite large and is right in between the Pink Wall dive site and the Sinandigan Wall dive site. From here you can go in two directions, down to current or up the steps of the Kilima Steps dive site.

The Kilima Steps can turn into a totally different dive, and a once idyllic and ordinary dive can turn into a rapid drift dive. At the steps you will be able to find the rare soapfish and the Kilima Steps are one of the few places in the entire Philippines where you can find this fish species. There are also other things to see such as moray eels, octopi, lionfish, gorgonian fans, nudibranchs, coral trees, sponges and table corals. If you are caught by the Kilima Drift, then prepare to see schools of barracudas, trevallies, mackerel and black tip reef sharks.

Both the Kilima Steps and the Kilima Drift require advanced open water or higher levels because the drifts can go up to 10 km per hour and you need to be experienced with drift dives. The minimum depth at the Kilima Steps is 5 meters and goes all the way down to 30 meters. If you are caught by the current, then expect to be experiencing different maximum and minimum depths. You can be taken past six different dive locations just in one drift dive. The currents are strong at all times, so make sure that you have enough control over your buoyancy and your equipment.

This exhilarating dive will cost you the normal flat rate of $25 to $35 per dive which includes the dive guide, the transportation and the weights and tanks. Make sure that your dive guide is experienced enough to guide you through the Kilima Steps, especially when the currents are tough.
