Mahmuds Reef Dive Spot in Puerto Galera - Philippines

Puerto Galera has plenty of adventure dive destinations as well as deep and tech dive destinations which leave little room for dive sites accessible to newbies and novices as well as more advanced divers. The Mahmuds Reef is a dive spot that consists of two parallel walls with sand slopes and sand valleys in between the walls. The dive spot is fairly hard to find or often overlooked because it seems so plain. The secret species that this dive spot has can only be seen whenever you look extremely close.

Mahmuds Reef is a perfect spot for critter lovers and nudibranch addicts. You will be able to find several large sponges, both barrel and basket and you will find massive amounts of anemone colonies in this dive spot where other fish and critters may hide. You will find moray eels peeping out of cracks from the wall, sweetlips, triggerfish and surgeonfish that are swimming around in schools. We already mentioned a large population of nudibranchs, but did we already mention the population of rare pygmy seahorses and mandarin fish?

The maximum depth of this dive site is a total of 50 meters and the minimum depth is 30 meters. You should have at least a deep diver certificate or an advanced open water certification if you are planning to dive in the Mahmuds Reef. Beginners can stay at shallower levels of this site determined by the dive guide, and tech divers can dive all the way down to 50 meters. The dive site can have strong currents, so prepare yourself for those or simply choose a time with lesser currents with your dive guide.

The cost for this dive as a regular diver is going to be $25 dollars including dive guide, weights, tanks and transportation. If you are going to do a tech dive, then you have to prepare around $50 for the dive into the Mahmuds Reef.
