Marcus Cave in Puerto Galera - Philippines
The best dive adventures one can imagine are happening in Puerto Galera, a port city in the Philippines. If you are a beginner in diving, then you may at the wrong spot in Puerto Galera because there are barely any dive spots that are ideal for beginners. The dive spots however are ideal for experienced divers, and that is what attracts so many divers to Puerto Galera. There is one dive spot however that virtually redefines the term of an experienced diver and this place is called the Marcus Cave.
The Marcus Cave dive spot is located in the northernmost island of Puerto Galera and it takes approximately 20 to 45 minutes to get to this dive site with a boat. The cave itself is located a deep dive away and is hidden within the walls of Puerto Galera. Be prepared physically and mentally before you embark into this dive site.
The Marcus Cave dive spot is a cave that is as big as almost half of a soccer field and you will have more than enough room to explore the cave wall. Upon descent, you will already encounter sea fans and whip corals. There are plenty of sweetlips hanging around as well as several tuna species. Within the Marcus Cave itself, you will find a giant gorgonian fan that hangs suspended from the cave ceiling. You can also find tree corals within the Marcus Cave dive site and be careful that you wont get scared because you might encounter a couple of white tip reef sharks swimming around unexpectedly within the cave.
The minimum depth of this dive site is 40 meters and the maximum depth is 60 meters. This dive site is nothing for beginners and even advanced divers. The Marcus Cave dive site requires a certification in DSAT Tec Trimix Diver with which you can deep dive up to 75 meters. This course requires you to have a PADI Rescue Diver certification, to be 18 years of age and to have a DSAT Tec Deep Diver certification and you have to have a minimum of 150 logged dives. This dive will require you to use a trimix blend of helium, oxygen and nitrogen.
The cost for this dive will be around $50 to $70 depending whether you are renting your entire equipment or just the tank and the weights. The prices include a guide, transportation and the trimixes. If you want to learn how to be a Tec Diver, then you can enroll in a short course in selected dive centers in Puerto Galera. You have to prepare around $1200 for this course which already includes the equipment for trimix diving.
