Sabang Wrecks Dive Site in Puerto Galera - Philippines

Not all dive sites in Puerto Galera have the natural coral reefs and gardens of clams, but instead have artificially created reefs. These artificial reefs used to be ghost reefs once, but now are inhabited with rare creatures, critters and special tropical fish. One of these artificial sites is the Sabang Wrecks dive site. This dive site will make you realize how much people are really doing to conserve the ocean wildlife and that is has been widely successful all over the Philippines with the Sabang Wrecks dive site being one perfect example.

The Sabang Wrecks dive site is located right in the middle of the entire Puerto Galera pier. It is situated within the Sabang Bay and it will take you only around two minutes to get there by boat, but you can also choose to do a shore entry. The Sabang Wrecks are three sunken boats that have now grown into beautiful artificial reefs. All three boats are near each other, so that you can visit all three with one dive for as long as you conserve your air.

The Sabang Wrecks should be dived in during the afternoon because the lighting during that time is perfect. You can also have a scary adventure night dive here, which will remind you of a ghost movie since some of the boats are actual cruisers. You will be able to find so many special creatures seeking refuge within the boats such as striped catfish, moray eels, mantis shrimps, ghost pipefish, scorpionfish and plenty of lionfish. The whole dive will remind you of a sunken ship exploration because the wrecks are so big.

The Sabang Wrecks dive site requires an advanced open water level because of the depth and the wreck dives. The Sabang Reef itself is already 12 to 18 meters which will reach the open water depth limit. The minimum depth in the Sabang Wrecks is 5 meters and the maximum is 20 meters. All the wrecks are in a 20 meter depth, which means that it is much more advisable to use Nitrox during this dive to lengthen your bottom time. The currents are light, so you will have no surprise drift dives or problems ascending and descending.

The cost for this dive should not exceed $35 which already should include rental of weights and tanks, transportation and dive guide. You can rent extra equipments if needed in one of the many dive shops and resorts on the mainland Puerto Galera. The Sabang Wrecks dive should be on your list of day trips or night dives whenever you are heading to Puerto Galera.
