Shark Caves in Puerto Galera - Philippines

The top diving haven in the Philippines is located right in the midst of Puerto Galera. This little island part is famous for its world quality dive sites and the rich marine biodiversity. You can be part of the Puerto Galera dive community, and all it takes is just one trip to the island of Mindoro so that you will experience dive sites such as the Shark Caves dive spot.

The Shark Caves dive spot is located around 20 minutes away from the shore and you can get there via boat rides. The Shark Caves is neighbor of another famous dive site which is called the Pink Wall due to its cauliflower coral population. The Shark Caves are hidden in farther depths, but the view will be something that you will never forget.

Within the Shark Caves dive spot, you will find sleeping sharks from Hammerhead sharks, to white tip reef sharks, and sometimes the whale shark. Do not worry about the shark myths that you have been hearing as a child, because majority of the shark population is by nature calm for as long as you do not provoke them. Your dive guide will inform you whether you can get closer to the sharks or if it is becoming too dangerous, so do not worry. You will also be seeing plenty of corals, nudibranchs, groupers, barracudas, sea fans, moray eels, and blue spotted stingrays. Scorpionfish, lionfish and blue triggerfish are also a common attraction in the Shark Caves dive spot.

The Shark Caves dive spot is a drift dive and a deep one in addition to that. The minimum depth is 18m and the maximum depth of the Shark Caves dive spot is 28m. The caves can be found in the maximum depth so you should at least have an advance open water certification and a lot of dive experience before daring to dive in this dive site. Many people also tend to get nervous or get panicky upon spotting a shark, so once again, you need plenty of experience and you should have good nerves when you visit the Shark Caves dive spot.

The best dive season for the Shark Caves dive spot is during November until May, which is also the high season of Philippines diving and tourism. The rates per dive should be at around $25, but the high season adds a couple of dollars to it due to lack of dive guides, boats etc. When planning your trip to Puerto Galera, you should book months in advanced so that you can get the cheapest rates for you and your family. Diving at Puerto Galera is the best that could ever happen to you and your passion for diving, and the Shark Caves will be the ultimate highlight of the trip.
